With the increasing availability of IoT devices and significantly greater incorporation of Internet-enabled technologies into manufacturing processes, the idea of improving factory control through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is also coming to the fore. Using the example of high-variation series manufacturing, this article describes which steps need to be taken to improve factory control with AI.

The realization of reorganization projects represents a complex and independent planning task within the framework of factory layout planning. Only little methodical knowledge exists, which considers the temporal, spatial and organizational restrictions in the creation of a schedule. This paper aims to present the interdependencies in the planning and execution of realization projects and thus to provide a basis for discussion for further investigations in the field of scheduling factory relocations for the reorganization of factory objects.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more important for a variety of industries, which is why enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems also offer many possible uses of AI. Due to their newly acquired, AI-based adaptability and learning abilities, modern AI-integrated ERP systems are able to develop competencies, plan processes, make forecasts and interact intelligently with humans. It is not uncommon for such systems to initiate major structural changes for companies and to open up new markets and design areas [1]. In order to measure the progress of an ERP system in terms of AI, the Center for Enterprise Research (CER) has developed an AI maturity model. Building on this model, a tool for evaluating AI integration in an ERP system should be able to showcase potential for development and enable market comparison.

How Several Players Benefit in a Subscription Ecosystem

Following the success of subscription models such as Netflix or Spotify in the IT and multimedia sector, the implementation of Industry 4.0 is increasingly creating the conditions for offering comparable models in the industrial context. Accordingly, pioneers are offering subscription models for printing machines, compressors or locomotives, for example. Providers do not act alone, but are supported in the design and implementation of the subscription offer by various players such as financiers, insurance companies or digitization service providers. This creates what is known as a subscription ecosystem. This article sheds light on these ecosystems and shows to what extent which players can participate in industrial subscription models. Depending on customer acceptance of these models, a wide variety of companies have the opportunity to benefit from the subscription trend and to tap into new markets and customer groups

The logistics industry is currently being confronted with various challenges, such as the lack of drivers, global disruptions to supply chains and the environmental impact of freight transport. In a comparison between the modes of transport, this speaks for a greater shift in freight transport from road to rail. In this article, the challenges for this shift are examined and it is shown to what extent data models can simplify the transport planning and economic assessment of regional freight tram transports. The potential of platform-based business models in the context of Industry 4.0 has not yet been fully realized. Approaches for platforms and ecosystem- based value creation vary between industries. The plastics industry has so far been widely ignored in this respect. Due to its industrial structure, in particular the uniform value creation structures, the plastics industry is suitable for digital platforms. In addition to approaches for platforms in the injection molding industry, the article offers a procedure model for the expansion of established business models. This can facilitate the entry into the field of platform-based business models for SMEs.

By describing a real laboratory setting with real experiments, this article demonstrates support options for companies to identify their own "data treasure" and to lift it.
