Why should I publish with Industry 4.0 Science?
Industry 4.0 Science is the most important journal for Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 in the German-speaking region. We offer scientists and experts from the field a platform on which to share their research and expertise with our growing community and we make this research available to an international audience. Every issue of Industry 4.0 Science is published bilingually in German and English as of 2024.
What are possible topics?
Each issue has a thematic focus, which is announced with the publication of the editorial calendar.
Industry 4.0 Science is primarily aimed at researchers and users with a research focus. However, the articles are of interest to anyone who wants to find out more about digitalization in an industrial context.
Articles with a strong practical focus could also be considered for publication in our specialist journals Factory Innovation or ERP Management.
How should I structure my article?
Submissions as well as peer reviews are processed via our platform OJS by I4S. There you find detailed information about manuscript components and correct formatting.
Prior to submitting, we are happy to receive a short abstract that clearly states the topic and problems of your manuscript at editorial-office@industry-science.com.

Are there any fees for publication?
We do not charge any fees (so-called processing fees) for the standard publication of your scientific work. To provide open access to your research, as well as greater reach, enhanced visibility, and expedited publication, we offer various open-access services for a fee.
Can I publish my article as open access?
Our aim is to make your specialist publication immediately available to the scientific community. Thanks to our membership with Crossref, the leading international organization for the promotion of scientific exchange, we can offer our authors all the advantages of open access at attractive rates. What is the editorial process?
First, we conduct an editorial review of each submission and determine its general suitability for publication in Industry 4.0 Science. If approved, this is followed by a peer review, during which a decision on the acceptance of the submission is made based on editorial criteria. During the revision phase, the reviewers’ comments must be carefully incorporated, and formal approval for publication in German and English must be granted. After finalization, the files are formatted and sent to the authors for a final review.
Can I also use my article in other ways?
To publish your article in our media, we need your consent, which you give us on the accompanying correction sheet. By doing so, you grant us exclusive publishing rights for the article in the year of publication and for one year thereafter. If this period seems too long to you, you can purchase a special electronic print for the fully laid out article or make your article available with open access and include a DOI.
