The paper specifies the genAI support needs for industrial maintenance against the background of a sociotechnical systems perspective. Emphasizing two needs, accessing implicit operator knowledge and prioritizing complex regulatory knowledge, a multi-layer architecture is outlined for an AI-based context-sensitive maintenance assistance system (MAS). The main purpose is to bridge knowledge gaps with genAI if human expertise and human implicit knowledge are not available and to cope with sub-process-specific challenges of multiple regulations. The MAS facilitates access to technical knowledge, distributes expertise, and shares implicit knowledge of experienced operators across different layers of information processing. The approach goes beyond standardization and has a high potential to enhance organizational as well as individual resilience.

Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) enables logistics companies to offer their customers tailored solutions, helping them to remain flexible and reduce costs as well as risks even in difficult times. Customers no longer pay for the object itself but only for the service provided, such as the usage time of a forklift truck. This allows them to focus on their core competencies and convert high investment costs into more flexible operating costs [1]. High capital commitment and the risk of underutilization of machines can thus be avoided and transferred to the logistics provider. This article examines the adjustments that logistics providers must make to accommodate this business model as well as some possible use cases.

Transforming formats such as showrooms, laboratories or exhibitions into a virtual presence offers both opportunities and challenges. Particularly with cyber-physical systems (CPS), which rely heavily on user interaction, extensive adaptations must be made in order to maintain their purpose and function virtually. As part of this research project, digital solutions from different technologies and fields of application were transferred to a virtual exhibition. On this basis, the influence of the digital transformation on the interactivity and emulation of the solutions was analyzed. This article presents a framework that supports practitioners in the implementation of virtual representations.

It also develops a target process that represents the use of an AI-based drone inspection and controls the use of such inspection technology. In particular, this article focuses on a collaborative approach to this new inspection methodology.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is constantly opening new opportunities, particularly in training for the factory of the future. For employees, this not only means a significant advantage in the actual manufacturing process, but also in the field of continuing education. This paper provides an overview of AI tutoring systems continuing education in the context of Industry 4.0 by presenting a categorization that discusses different approaches of AI tutoring systems by learning methods, application areas and their respective technologies. In addition, an outlook on the disruptive effect of generative AI on AI tutoring systems in Industry 4.0 is given.
