The paper specifies the genAI support needs for industrial maintenance against the background of a sociotechnical systems perspective. Emphasizing two needs, accessing implicit operator knowledge and prioritizing complex regulatory knowledge, a multi-layer architecture is outlined for an AI-based context-sensitive maintenance assistance system (MAS). The main purpose is to bridge knowledge gaps with genAI if human expertise and human implicit knowledge are not available and to cope with sub-process-specific challenges of multiple regulations. The MAS facilitates access to technical knowledge, distributes expertise, and shares implicit knowledge of experienced operators across different layers of information processing. The approach goes beyond standardization and has a high potential to enhance organizational as well as individual resilience.

This particularly affects industrial enterprises, which face challenges due to their often complex business processes. A holistic and sustainable integration of these business processes requires a strong link between the different information systems used. In this context, application integration, also known as enterprise application integration (EAI), is becoming more important. Modern approaches such as the use of microservices offer a particularly flexible and efficient solution for seamlessly connecting different applications and thus promoting the agility and scalability of a company’s IT landscape.

In this article, we present a prototype implementation for switching between cloud services from different providers at the PaaS level.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is constantly opening new opportunities, particularly in training for the factory of the future. For employees, this not only means a significant advantage in the actual manufacturing process, but also in the field of continuing education. This paper provides an overview of AI tutoring systems continuing education in the context of Industry 4.0 by presenting a categorization that discusses different approaches of AI tutoring systems by learning methods, application areas and their respective technologies. In addition, an outlook on the disruptive effect of generative AI on AI tutoring systems in Industry 4.0 is given.

Interoperable automation can benefit cybersecurity certification processes that result from the EU Cybersecurity Act (e.g. EUCS) so that they represent less overhead for the stakeholders involved. The development of key standardization efforts involving relevant stakeholders (e.g. regulators) is needed to fully realize these benefits. EU projects like H2020 MEDINA, HEU COBALT and communities such as EUROSCAL are well on the way to achieving this goal. However, more practical experience is needed to make continuous certification with automation a reality.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more important for a variety of industries, which is why enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems also offer many possible uses of AI. Due to their newly acquired, AI-based adaptability and learning abilities, modern AI-integrated ERP systems are able to develop competencies, plan processes, make forecasts and interact intelligently with humans. It is not uncommon for such systems to initiate major structural changes for companies and to open up new markets and design areas [1]. In order to measure the progress of an ERP system in terms of AI, the Center for Enterprise Research (CER) has developed an AI maturity model. Building on this model, a tool for evaluating AI integration in an ERP system should be able to showcase potential for development and enable market comparison.
