Automated Environment Analysis – Generation of AI Training Data Sets

Automated Environment Analysis - Generation of AI Training Data Sets

Annika Lange ORCID Icon, Julia-Anne Scholz, Thomas Knothe ORCID Icon, Magdalena Scharf
To show SMEs a way to identify changes at an early stage, the interactive situation awareness monitor developed by Fraunhofer IPK is used. This gives companies an individually structured overview about their environment and their company (e. g. order situation). The area of the corporate environment is currently being expanded to include the compa- ny-specific component of automatic recognition of context-related data in order to provide relevant information to a company automatically. For this purpose, a machine learning model is developed and trained using company-specific data sets. First- ly, it is necessary to create the data sets with relevant and irrelevant environment information. For that, the PESTEL analysis is applied in this paper. Further- more, advantages and disadvantages of the analy- sis for generating data sets are discussed.

Digitally Networked Business Models

Digitally Networked Business Models

Structured Benefit and Effort Estimation for Digital and Hybrid Business Model Innovation
Sebastian Beiner, Steffen Kinkel ORCID Icon, Dennis Richter
An essential component of digital value creation is the innovation of digitally networked business models. By networking different actors and service bundles, new customer value can be created. However, this networking leads to increased complexity, which makes it difficult for tradition- al industrial companies in particular to exploit these opportunities in a meaningful way. For this reason, a system is presented that reduces com- plexity through modelling and makes it possible to compare the effort and benefits of business model ideas at an early stage.

Digitalization in the Supply Chain

Digitalization in the Supply Chain

Trends and fields of application in the drive technology sector of the mechanical and plant engineering industry
Leonard Overbeck, Dardan Baralija, Rainer Silbernagel, Hartmut Rauen, Jürgen Fleischer, Gisela Lanza ORCID Icon
A robust and resilient supply chain is a critical success factor for the competitiveness of manufacturing companies. However, today’s supply chain faces various challenges, such as higher complexities and increasing dynamics coming from megatrends (i. e. globalization and sustainability). The medium-sized drive technology industry, with its global supply chains and high customer requirements, is particularly affected by these challenges. Therefore, digitalization initiatives are crucial. This article analyzes current digitalization projects in the drive technology industry in order to identify relevant trends and fields of application. Synthesized from the industry's target picture for higher resilience/ flexibility, greater transparency and more sustainability along the supply chain, these provide guidance for medium-sized companies and their digitalization strategies. Capabilities of 5G for the Intralogistics of the Future

Capabilities of 5G for the Intralogistics of the Future

Julius Burghardt, Lukas Höhn, Dieter Uckelmann ORCID Icon
The use of 5G technology o ers many companies enormous opportunities regarding their efforts to optimize processes. In particular, the intralogistics of a smart factory could bene t signi cantly from the use of 5G. The position of diverse mobile units can be determined precisely. Applications such as the control of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV ) or the precise localization of material come into consideration. If the potential of 5G technology can be fully utilized and integrated into the structure of intralogistics, production processes could be revolutionized.

The Act on the Protection of Human Rights in Global Supply Chains (Supply Chain Act), which will apply from 1 January 2023, pursues the goal of tracing production and working conditions that violate human rights as well as the protection of the environment in the value creation networks. To act when grievances are identi ed, information on production and working conditions must be available transparently across supply networks. However, this goal is only possible with a digital and e cient exchange of information. The question is therefore how and under what framework conditions this exchange of information can succeed.

Digitization in Supply Chain Management −Decision Support for the Selection of Suitable Technologies

Digitization in Supply Chain Management −Decision Support for the Selection of Suitable Technologies

Entscheidungsunterstützung bei der Auswahl geeigneter Technologien
Sascha Düerkop, Jakob Grubmüller, Michael Huth
The trend toward digitization o ers considerable potential; this is particularly true in supply chain management (SCM). However, not every technology is suitable for every company and its processes. This article presents a structured approach that supports companies in the selection process. The approach consists of several phases: Starting with the identi cation of business goals and ending with the selection of those technologies that seem most promising. Its applicability was tested in a research project at a logistics service provider. It is easily transferable to a concrete decision-making situation.

Digitization-Induced Risks in Procurement 4.0

Digitization-Induced Risks in Procurement 4.0

Management of a Changed Risk Situation due to Industry 4.0
Jan Niklas Dörseln
Procurement 4.0 represents comprehensive information technology networking with suppliers. This enables the automation of the operational procurement process and forms the basis for closer collaboration with strategic suppliers. However, such networking is also accompanied by risks which can sustainably reduce the success of procurement. After an assessment of digitization-induced risks it is shown that a trade-off between relationship and supplier risks takes place, depending in the intensity of the network.

Effient Container Transport Processes Sup- ported by a Digital Platform

Unterstützung der Angebotserstellung und Auswahl von Transportdienstleistungen durch eine digitale Plattform
Michael Teucke, Eike Broda, Michael Freitag ORCID Icon
Maritime container transport is the backbone of international trade and supply and distribution processes in global manufacturing networks. However, digital support of container transportation related processes is still insu cient. This article shows how a digital platform can facilitate the digital interaction between industry and logistics stakeholders. Using the quotation process as an example, it describes how the platform can support transactions between shippers and transport service providers. Use of the digital platform increases process transparency, reduces duplication of work and reduces the time required to carry out the processes.

Green Fuels in Maritime Shipping

Green Fuels in Maritime Shipping

Heating, electric power supply and ship propulsion with hydrogen and LNG fuels
Carsten Fichter, Uwe Werner
In current times, heavier fuels such as oil and diesel are generally used to power merchant and passenger ships alike. International and national regulations are likely to increase pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of sulfur and nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide, and fine dust pollution within the global maritime shipping industry. Green fuels are one possible solution for emission reduction. Therefore, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) create the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), Annex VI of which enables the enforcement of designated (sulfur) emission control areas (ECAs or SECAs). Current research shows that hydrogen and LNG fuels can be safely operated and used to supply electric generating systems and drive systems. Today, cruise ships are often constructed with LNG main propulsion engines. Conventional hydrogen and LNG fuels are not CO2 free. However, green hydrogen, green ammonia and green LNG are based on ...
