MES for Manufacturing SMEs

MES for Manufacturing SMEs

Adapted procedure model and tool for an effcient selection
Rainer Eber, Steffen Schwarzer, Daniel Miller
Manufacturing SMEs are structurally di erent from other companies and therefore have special requirments for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and the associated software selection. Process models must therefore be adapted. For the identication of requirements, a systematic categorization based on existing models was performed. With the help of an existing market research platform, further selection steps were developed in order to provide a useful and easy-to-use tool for SMEs, which enables them to select efficiently sufficient MES-software according to their needs.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Logistics − Implementation Model and Success Factors

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Logistics − Implementation Model and Success Factors

Vorgehensmodell und Erfolgsfaktoren für die Implementierung
Carsten Feldmann, Jan Krakau, Victor Kaupe
RPA refers to bots that automate repetitive, rulebased tasks in a business process. This paper describes general areas of application for RPA in logistics as well as two practical logistics examples. In addition, a procedure model for the implementation of RPA in logistics is presented. The paper answers the following questions: What are suitable use cases for RPA in logistics? What criteria support the selection of suitable processes? And how should an implementation guide be designed to systematically support an implementation project taking into account critical success factors?

Key Factors for Successful Supply Chain Management

Key Factors for Successful Supply Chain Management

Sebastian Trojahn, Vanessa Klementzki
Today's business world is characterized by ever-increasing complexity in nearly every dimension. Supply chains can no longer be understood in a linear fashion, but form networks across numerous supply chain participants. Globalization and crises are straining existing structures, calling into question previously set priorities and measures, and demanding new solutions. How must supply chains be structured in this constantly changing environment in order to be successful? This article highlights fields of action for successful supply chain management.

Current Approaches and Opportunities Inherent to Digital Ledger Technologies
David Wuttke, Sairam Sriraman
In this article, we discuss the opportunities of digtal supply chains from a supply chain nance perspective. In doing so, we rst highlight the importance of supply chain finance at times of global supply shortages. Then, we explain why digital platforms are necessary in this context and what challenges their introduction entails. Finally, we provide an outlook towards distributed ledger technology and blockchain.

Additive Manufacturing Value Chain

Additive Manufacturing Value Chain

Development of an SME-specific value chain of additively manufactured final metal parts
Tim Niklas Mai, Martin Brylowski, Ayman Nagi, Wolfgang Kersten ORCID Icon
Additive manufacturing processes are becoming increasingly important in industry and enable the cost-e ective production of complex components in small quantities. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular can bene t from the high customization potential enabling the development of new business models. However, the widespread use of additive processes faces high production costs and technological challenges. Meanwhile, scienti c research focuses on the optimization of individual process steps of additive manufacturing and does not o er su cient support for SMEs. Therefore, this paper deals with the development of a cross-process value chain of additive manufacturing for SMEs. Based on a systematic analysis of scienti c literature, relevant additive manufacturing processes were investigated, and a cross-process value chain was derived. The results were veri ed by expert interviews and central research and development requirements were extracted.

Structuring of Customer Contacts in Technical Service
Jörg Abel, Peter Ittermann, Tobias Wienzek
The market for technical services is currently undergoing a transformation that is having an impact on the business models and structures of companies in this market. This change also has consequences for the specialists at technical service providers: In addition to new technical knowledge, they have to communicate more with customers and partners in particular. Analysis of the Characteristics of Current Learning Factories

Virtual reality as a possible answer to topical challenges
Christoph S. Zoller, Lars Harkemper, Wladimir Rempel
Learning factories offer the possibility to plan, execute and analyze the knowledge imparted in theory on realistic industrial systems. This article analyzes the potential of developing and operating a learning factory in a virtual environment. For this purpose, institutions with learning factories are surveyed regarding the challenges and desires in the operation of learning factories and the mentioned aspects are discussed with regard to their representability in Virtual Reality. The result shows that Virtual Reality positively influences a large part of the aspects and has a high potential to solve current challenges in the establishment and operation of learning factories.

Distribution of Qualification in Companies Becomes Measurable − Danger for Employees with Medium Level of Qualification due to Digitization

Gefahr für Mitarbeiter mit mittlerer Qualifikation durch die Digitalisierung
Gerrit Sames
Employees, machines and products get connected: the 4th Industrial Revolution has begun [1]. This is a central statement on the homepage of the German „Plattform Industrie 4.0“. Meanwhile the basic ideas started to move from the shopfloor level to the level of business processes and business models. In consequence it was detected pretty early, that digitization will affect the employees and their qualification and tasks in the companies; the term Work 4.0 evolved. The following contribution emphasizes the systematization of qualifications. A new model will be displayed, that helps to bring transparency to the distribution of qualification in companies. The useability of the model is verified in two case studies. The model is a practicable instrument for companies to gain a realistic view to the upcoming challenges of the shift of qualification due to digitization.

Digital Assistance and Learning Systems

Design of Systems for Manual Assembly Conducive to Learning
Tina Haase, Dirk Berndt, Wilhelm Termath, Michael Dick
The authors present a methodological approach for designing assistance systems conducive to learning and derive requirements for their design. They base the design of these systems on a fundamental understanding of the cooperation between humans and machines, which still places decisions and responsibility with humans. Finally, the authors show concrete requirements and measures of a participatory design and implementation process.
