On-Site BLE-Based Data Collection

On-Site BLE-Based Data Collection

Hendrik Jonitz, Thomas Braml, Eva-Maria Kern, Marius Herzog
The increasing industrialization of the construction industry enables the implementation of a standardized process performance management, which can be used to analyze and control operational processes on construction sites [1]. This requires appropriate process data. The subject of this paper is the presentation of a structured procedure for process data collection based on Bluetooth Low Energy. The experiences gained in the course of field studies are used to derive opportunities and challenges and thus provide practical information on the use of BLE for process data collection. Fire Department Action Patterns for IT Support?

Fire Department Action Patterns for IT Support?

Norbert Gronau ORCID Icon, Eva-Maria Kern
Emergency organizations such as fire departments or technical relief organizations are expected to react very quickly – sometimes to unknown situations – and provide the appropriate assistance. Can principles used in these organizations be transferred to IT support, e.g. for ERP systems? An experiment in an IT service unit investigates this question – with surprising results.

Challenges in Dealing with Production Disturbances

Results of a survey on the current state of disturbance management
Norbert Gronau ORCID Icon, Eva-Maria Kern, Hendrik Jonitz
Current State of Disturbance Management Disturbances in production systems can lead to massive costs for enterprises. It is a highly relevant ability for manufacturing companies to cope with the effects of occurring disturbances and their prevention. A survey on manufacturing companies draws a current picture of disturbance management and identifies challenges for coping with disturbances.

Reducing Process Complexity by Modularization

Reducing Process Complexity by Modularization

The increasing complexity in products, structures and processes causes a creeping reduction of the efficiency of intra- and inter-organisational business pro-cesses. Since not all parts of complexity can be influenced by the managerial work, the controlling of the other parts by efficient processes is an important aspect. Business process modularisation allows identifying process parts with clearly defined interfaces, which mainly reduce the complexity of these pro-cesses.

Collaborative Engineering

Collaborative Engineering

An approach for supplier integration into the product development process
Wolfgang Kersten ORCID Icon, Eva-Maria Kern
Collaborative Engineering offers companies new possibilities to involve their suppliers into the product development process. The requirements which a successful approach for internet-supported supplier integration has to fulfil are exemplified for the ship building industry. Flexibility and low implementation effort of the chosen solution turn out to be, together with appropriate functionalities to support the distributed cooperation, decisive success factors.
