Alongside to the enormous rise in Bitcoin value in 2017/2018, there was also a tremendous rise in required Hashpower and electricity to verify blocks of the Bitcoin-Chain. Deriving from this problem, this article investigates different consensus algorithms and their impact on sustainability. Furthermore this article proposes an extensive comparison of the most used Blockchain algorithms with a focus on their contribution to sustainability.

Blockchain technology is expected to have great potential for success, especially in logistics and supply chain management. In the following, the Blockchain project “Release Order based on Blockchain (ROboB)” in the Port of Hamburg will be discussed in particular. The analysis showed that in addition to positive aspects, the core characteristics of the Blockchain could also represent obstacles for logistics business. Therefore, this paper examines whether transparency is an important design consideration when using blockchain in logistics and the supply chain.

The toolfree production of parts using 3D printing technology enables dynamic use of the production area. On the one hand, this makes it possible to react flexibly to changes and, on the other hand, to achieve a high level of efficiency in the production units. The blockchain technology enables a common database between the participants. This leads to a verifiable collaboration in the case of the relationship between customer and manufacturer. This paper describes how available additive manufacturing resources can be identified and offered in a decentralized production network.

Blockchain technology - a distributed ledger in which transactions of all kinds of values can be carried out securely, transparently and consensually without trust in a central authority - is a socio-technical innovation that has the potential to enable new business models and make existing business models obsolete. While most applications today exist in the financial sector (e.g., payment processing), the technology is suitable for various industrial applications, especially in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This article uses three propositions and various concrete examples to shed light on the possible applications of blockchain technology for new IoT business models.

BC has just passed the peak of inflated expectations. This article aims to assess the status quo of the technology in terms of logistics and to identify initial implications. To this end, the basics of BC are explained and the existing scientific literature is summarized. Subsequently, examples from practice and research projects are presented and compared with the previously presented findings in order to allow a systematization of the application potentials. Possible implications as well as opportunities and risks for logistics conclude the article.

In this article, the blockchain is presented in an industrial application in the context of a quality data acquisition in assembly.
