3D printing has established itself as a production process and has also found its way into the fashion industry. Individualised shoes can be 3D printed, but this poses significant challenges for automated quality control, as defects are rare. Autoencoders enable to train a system with defect-free data so that detected deviations from this state can be evaluated as defects. Our research shows a ROC AUC score of 0.87, proving that this method is suitable for anomaly detection in 3D-printed shoes.

What Are the Potentials and Hurdles for the Example of Intelligent Lighting Control?

The progressive digitization of the working environment requires an infrastructure in production and logistics companies. In addition to establishing communication networks, a digitized infrastructure can itself be used as the subject of intelligent behaviour. Using the example of intelligent lighting control in port logistics, this article provides an overview of the potentials and hurdles that exist. First, it be examines how infrastructures in ports are structured and which technical solutions exist to implement intelligent control methods. Thereafter, it shows the potential arising from such intelligent lighting control, example given up to 35 % saving of energy costs allocated to electricity, and what hurdles must be overcome beforehand.

Wire ropes are used in different applications and human life often depend on their integrity. Therefore, technical personnel checks the tightropes on a regular basis but there are some difficulties in detecting damaged areas. Consequently, wire ropes are exchanged rather too early than too late causing avoidable extra costs. In this paper, the project MOBISTAR is presented that combines a magneto-inductive and an optical sensor to detect damages and a software based on Convolutional Neural Networks to evaluate those defects.

The online grocery is facing big challenges. In addition to products of daily use, it is necessary to deliver fresh, chilled and frozen foods quickly and reliably to the customer. Frozen products are delivered for decades to the customers by using small cooling vans. Since some years also normal parcel delivery services in combination with insulated shipping containers are used. This article examines in a comparative analysis the environmental impact of alternative shipping modes in comparison to normal supermarket shopping by use of a life cycle assessment according to DIN EN ISO 14040.
