Applying Numerical Indices to Measure and Increase Resilience

Applying Numerical Indices to Measure and Increase Resilience

Approaches to analyzing resilience in supply chains
Saskia Sardesai ORCID Icon, Lucas Schreiber
An increased awareness of risks and rising incidents prompt companies to enhance the resilience of their supply chains. While various measures can be employed to increase resilience, a parallel consideration of a multitude of metrics is necessary to explicitly evaluate its impact on supply chain resilience. The paper presents approaches that facilitate the comparability of resilience across alternative supply chain designs by combining various metrics into a single numerical index. Additionally, innovative technologies are highlighted that can help to create resilient supply chains.

Selection Criteria for IoT Platforms

Selection Criteria for IoT Platforms

Fundierte Auswahl einer passenden IoT-Plattform auf Basis häufig verwendeter Kriterien
Lukas Bruder, Dirk A. Neumayer, Richard Neumayer, Theo Lutz ORCID Icon
IoT-Platforms are a key element for interconnecting physical objects and providing data for digital twins which represent such objects. The market for IoT platforms has grown massively in recent years. With now more than 600 providers, selecting the “right” platform for a company is no longer an easy task. This article supports companies in the selection process by providing an overview on common functionalities of IoT platforms and criteria for evaluating IoT platforms.

Human-Centered Assistance Systems

Systematic evaluation of assembly assistance systems
Dennis Keiser, Christoph Petzoldt, Thies Beinke, Michael Freitag ORCID Icon, Henning Vogler
The employee remains a key productivity element in industrial assembly. Assembly assistance systems have therefore become an integral part of employee support. This paper presents a novel assistance system that complements process-related assistance with human-centered functionalities. In addition, an approach for the systematic evaluation of assembly assistance systems is presented in this paper. The research is based on an evaluation of the current state of the art through systematic market analysis of available assembly assistance systems.

Mito-based MES-Modules – Implementation and Evaluation

Mito-based MES-Modules - Implementation and Evaluation

Hartmut F. Binner
You will be presented with a tool-based approach to MES function modules selection and implementation. Classic data observations include MES and formats such as production data acquisition (PDA), machine data acquisition (MDA) and personnel data entry, but also all other processes, a timely impact on the manufacturing/production process. The MES covers typically the business, reporting and schedule the production levels of an enterprise ERP and the actual production or production process in manufacturing and automation level. In particular, the MES of continuously controlling enforcement an existing and valid planning and feedback from the process is used.

A Method to Design Process Chains in Micro Manufacturing

A Method to Design Process Chains in Micro Manufacturing

Bernd Scholz-Reiter ORCID Icon, Daniel Rippel
In the field of micro manufacturing, a highly precise adjustment of relevant process parameters is of major importance. The continuing miniaturization of work pieces and machines leads to very small tolerances. The occurrence of so called size-effects interferes with a direct application of knowledge and experiences from macro manufacturing. Moreover, the high specialization of manufacturing technologies and processes in micro manufacturing requires a careful review of each process’s suitability with respect to the involved materials and components. This article presents a method that supports process designers with structured procedures and notations, to model and evaluate technological as well as logistic dependencies along the process chain. Thereby, it supports the selection and configuration of suitable processes for a given process chain.

Key Figures for Configuration and Evaluation of Product-Service Systems

Key Figures for Configuration and Evaluation of Product-Service Systems

Ein Ansatz zur Bewertung der Leistungsfähigkeit investiver PSS
Jan C. Aurich, Eric Schweitzer, Carsten Mannweiler, Nico Wolf
Industrial customers are increasingly expecting to be provided with integrated solutions that in addition to a decent physical product comprise diverse services as well. Such solutions, called product-service systems (PSS), have to fulfil both customer individual targets and manufacturer targets. Due to this, manufacturer have to define key figures, which allow to choose the specific configuration of PSS and to measure the performance while it is used. This paper presents an approach for generating key figures for selecting PSS and controlling their performance.

Decisions of Autonomously Controlled Logistic Objects

Decisions of Autonomously Controlled Logistic Objects

Henning Rekersbrink, Bjørn Ludwig, Bernd Scholz-Reiter ORCID Icon
Autonomously controlled transportation processes require decision making of logistic objects regarding routing alternatives. In this contribution a multicriterial evaluation assessment procedure is introduced basing on the fuzzy hierarchical aggregation, adapted and further developed at the CRC 637 “Autonomous Control of Logistic Processes” at Bremen University. The main design focus was user-friendliness within autonomous control and other fields of application. The example of use is a hierarchical structure of the subcriteria characterising the routing alternatives of an autonomous package. It is shown that the procedure can consider unprecise and fuzzy formulated knowledge directly in the model, while parameter adjusting was reduced to a minimum. Different weightings and compensation effects of subcriteria are depicted. The contribution shows the evaluation on a two-subcriteria basis and the possibilities of multicriterial evaluation as well. The evaluation of hard and soft ...
