Setting Up Assembly Assistance Systems

Setting Up Assembly Assistance Systems

System for the efficient configuration of assembly instructions and assistance functions
Dennis Keiser, Dario Niermann ORCID Icon, Michael Freitag ORCID Icon
In industrial assembly, humans are working more closely with machines due to assembly assistance. However, despite their great potential, the implementation of digital systems is time-consuming, which entails high training requirements. Small and medium-sized businesses, in particular, are reaching their limits. A newly developed setup system is designed to facilitate the introduction and use of such assembly assistance systems and increase their acceptance.

The aviation industry faces significant challenges in reducing the environmental impact of global air traffic. This results in the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. Innovations and new technologies must be implemented along the entire value chain to achieve this goal. In this context, investments and decisions have to be evaluated based on their potential to reduce environmental impacts. One method for operationalizing these issues is the life cycle assessment framework. This paper presents an analytical decision model for the potential assessment of LCA at aircraft manufacturers. The basis of the model is the derivation of criteria for the assessment and the identification of use cases along the value creation process. Based on the decision model, first concrete application scenarios are identified. (Only in German)

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the additional challenges that events face in terms of appropriate crowd management. This paper is dedicated analyzing these challenges and existing approaches for the safe operation of events during pandemics. Based on this, an innovative framework is presented that uses intelligent crowd analysis and is applicable to an environment with volatile groups. In addition, the specifiv use case of trade fair events is considered in this framework.

The employee remains a key productivity element in industrial assembly. Assembly assistance systems have therefore become an integral part of employee support. This paper presents a novel assistance system that complements process-related assistance with human-centered functionalities. In addition, an approach for the systematic evaluation of assembly assistance systems is presented in this paper. The research is based on an evaluation of the current state of the art through systematic market analysis of available assembly assistance systems.

Gamification for Incentive-based Assembly Systems

Gamification for Incentive-based Assembly Systems

Methodology for Suitability, Valuation and Selection of Game Design Elements in Manual Assembly Processes
Dennis Keiser, Christoph Petzoldt, Thies Beinke, Michael Freitag ORCID Icon
In manual assembly, assistance systems are applied for the informational and physical support of employees. So far, assistance mainly focuses on some process-related aspects of assembly processes, while system acceptance, motivational perspectives are not considered. This article presents the gamification approach as a possibility to support the motivation of the workers. To facilitate a successful implementation of gamification, this paper presents a structured and method-based selection approach for game design elements.
