Internal and external communication is a key success factor for Industrial Data Science (IDS) projects. In particular, complex issues must be prepared and presented comprehensively. Visualization contributes to a uniform and deep understanding of data, processes, models, and results by all parties involved. This article shows the practical benefits of different visualisations for communication and documentation in the respective phases of IDS projects.

Efficiency in the Production

Efficiency in the Production

Potenziale zur Optimierung der Produktion durch die richtigen Kennzahlen erkennen und nutzen
Bernd Kleindienst, Kristin Samac, Hubert Biedermann
In many companies the performance measurement system has become confusingly complex. Therefore efficient production control and identification of potentials for improvement are not possible. The solution is a lean and customized production performance measurement system. Based on success factors KPIs are developed. These indicators allow it to visualize complex issues in a transparent way. The result is a tool, which helps organizations to plan, monitor, control and improve their performance.

Labour Organization of Maintenance in Cyber-Physical Systems

Labour Organization of Maintenance in Cyber-Physical Systems

Hubert Biedermann
The increased application of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) in production and manufacturing sector increases the demand on functional safety and reliability. Maintenance is responsible to ensure the availability of resources. In this context the question is, which Labour Organization and maintenance philosophy can be achieved in economic terms. It is important to know what type of four typical organization variants are to be preferred in short, medium and long term. The relative comparison is carried out taking into account different organization forms to the achievement of objectives. The selected set of objectives is taken into account for CPS typical effectiveness and efficiency dimensions.

Plant Efficiency as an Essential Component of Agile Production Systems

Plant Efficiency as an Essential Component of Agile Production Systems

Hubert Biedermann, Markus Gram
For the design of an agile production system in addition to the holistic view of production and its internal and external links, a detailed analysis of individual components is necessary. These elements are general manufacturing equipment in various types of expression. To investigate and valuate the properties of these components primarily key figures and indicators are used. In the field of facility and maintenance management the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) parameter is widely used to determine the equipment efficiency. This indicator is an integral part of a holistic maintenance management. Recent developments use the OEE value as a basis to evaluate the whole value chain to get a holistic view of the included equipment. This integrated approach is an essential component for assessing the flexibility of production systems, which presents itself in three different dimensions.
