Many of today’s factors make software development more and more complex, such as time pressure, new technologies, IT security risks, et cetera. Thus, a good preparation of current as well as future software developers in terms of a good software engineering education becomes progressively important. As current research shows, Competence Developing Games (CDGs) and Serious Games can offer a potential solution. This paper identifies the necessary requirements for CDGs to be conducive in principle, but espe- cially in software engineering (SE) education. For this purpose, the current state of research was summarized in the context of a literature review. Afterwards, some of the identified requirements as well as some additional requirements were evaluated by a survey in terms of subjective relevance.

Lukas Bruder, Dirk A. Neumayer, Richard Neumayer, Theo Lutz ORCID Icon
IoT-Platforms are a key element for interconnecting physical objects and providing data for digital twins which represent such objects. The market for IoT platforms has grown massively in recent years. With now more than 600 providers, selecting the “right” platform for a company is no longer an easy task. This article supports companies in the selection process by providing an overview on common functionalities of IoT platforms and criteria for evaluating IoT platforms.

Viktor Pana-Schubert, Sven Rogalski, Jivka Ovtcharova
This paper describes an approach for knowledge based product configuration through the integration of experience and knowledge from the product use phase. The goal of this approach is to enable a faster and software-controlled harmonization of the different customer’s and the manufacturer’s point of view during the pre contract phase. Therefore a case-based reasoning method was developed to be integrated in a rule based product configuration system.
