Why AI Relies on Data

Why AI Relies on Data

Uwe Müller
Artificial intelligence has the potential to bring companies and entire industries to a completely new technological level. The prerequisite is data with a high degree of maturity, with which companies can automate complex processes, calculate forecasts or create analyses. With the right data strategy, structuring and achieving the necessary data quality are no longer dreams of the future.

Automate Processes Strategically Instead of Selectively

Automate Processes Strategically Instead of Selectively

How and why a Center of Automation ignites the digitization booster—not only in related fields
Steffen Weiers
Many departments have already recognized the enormous increase in efficiency and personnel relief from routine activities through process automation. These digital thought leaders have begun to automate office processes using new technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), low code in the Microsoft Power Platform or in SAP. However, the positive experiences often remain in individual departments. Due to the lack of a strategic superstructure, companies as a whole have not yet succeeded in systematically transferring the added values to all areas. The organizational solution for this is called a "Center of Automation". Sometimes it is enough for the team to consist of two members to bring an overarching, digital process mindset into a company. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Logistics − Implementation Model and Success Factors

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Logistics − Implementation Model and Success Factors

Vorgehensmodell und Erfolgsfaktoren für die Implementierung
Carsten Feldmann, Jan Krakau, Victor Kaupe
RPA refers to bots that automate repetitive, rulebased tasks in a business process. This paper describes general areas of application for RPA in logistics as well as two practical logistics examples. In addition, a procedure model for the implementation of RPA in logistics is presented. The paper answers the following questions: What are suitable use cases for RPA in logistics? What criteria support the selection of suitable processes? And how should an implementation guide be designed to systematically support an implementation project taking into account critical success factors?

Status and Use Cases in the Construction Industry
Tim Scherzinger, Sabrina Guschlbauer, Fabian Diefenbach ORCID Icon
The construction industry has taken first steps towards digitalized processes with the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems and the modelling of processes. However, there are few successful examples of IT-supported processes in the largely manual construction phase. This article provides insights from a practical study, which examined the implementation of a workflow management system as a potential next step.

Wireless Industrial Communication

Wireless Industrial Communication

Which System is Suitable for my Industry?
Lisa Grandjean, Lisa Underberg, Marion Steven
Industrial communication benefits from wireless systems, which is more flexible, easily scalable and low in maintenance compared to wired systems. Hence, wireless systems are of interest to many producing companies in various industries. However, industrial applications vary broadly in their requirements regarding a communication system. Thus, applications are categorized by their typical requirements, and suitable wireless systems are proposed. Based on these considerations, methods for comparing different wireless systems are reviewed and thereby, the decision making process is supported.
