The concepts of public and private play a special role in connection with the digitalized society and thus with the ethical requirements that such a society places on cybersecurity. This is because the digitalization of society is shifting the boundaries between what can be described as public and private. Consequently, the relationship between freedom and surveillance is being put to the test. It is a question of (cyber-)ethics how far privacy should be restricted in favor of surveillance and security. (Only in German)

Blockchain holds high potential for various applications. In the business context, one of its key features - the availability of data to various parties - is a liability as business secrets shouldn’t be exposed and GDPR compliance has to be ensured. In this paper, we discuss solutions for these privacy problems. Also, we present the HANSEBLOC project, a blockchain-powered platform for data exchange in logistics, and the chosen privacy solutions.

Compliance through a Sealed Cloud

For businesses, the main problem with cloud computing is the loss of control over own data. After all, one cannot know what cloud provider staff might read or copy processed or stored data. Not so with providers based on Sealed Cloud technology. This basic technology encrypts all data, and any access is rendered impossible by a series of technical measures. Not even the cloud provider has access to the data, not only during transfer and within the database, but also during data processing.
