Complex, modern production processes require the personnel to be available for a particular production order or operation at a specific point in time, which is at least as important as the availability of resources or the machine itself. The same applies to the quality that is generated during a production process and that has constantly to be monitored to make sure that an operation or order is produced in the requested minimum yield quantity. Deadlines specified by the customer can only be met, if you are permanently aware of the production progress, quality and availability of resources. This brief and practical consideration alone helps realize how important horizontal integration is for an MES system.
