Digitalization and sustainability for one-of-a-kind and small-batch manufacturers
Christoph Laroque ORCID Icon, Deike Gliem ORCID Icon, Sigrid Wenzel ORCID Icon
A decisive competitive factor for smaller and medium-sized manufacturers of one-of-a-kind and small batches is their products’ timely completion, delivery and commissioning. Precise logistics planning is just as important as production control. However, the processes are often characterized by uncertainties, e.g. due to local conditions at the customer or cooperation with suppliers. Digital shadows for data evaluation in real time offer a convincing solution.

Lösungsstrategien für umweltverträgliche Produkte und Produktionsprozesse im Kontext von Kleinunternehmen
Manuel Löwer, Tim Katzwinkel, Dominik Limbach
The political and social request for environmentally compatible products is putting companies under increasing pressure. Small and medium-sized companies (SME) in particular have to quickly find or develop solutions to these demands. This paper presents a methodological approach that combines the proven strategies of agile development with the specific activities of so-called ecodesign. The methodology is first discussed theoretically and then experimentally evaluated and discussed by means of a case study in a real company context.

Determination of Greenhouse Gas Efficiency of Diversified Logistic Service Providers
Wolf Lampe
Range and individualisation of diversified logistic services vary substantially. A unique indicator for specific CO2-emission is not a viable option. The author proposes to aggregate individual CO2-efficiency trends of sub-entities by adding all singular tendencies during a reporting period weighted against the overall CO2-emission of the reporting entity or group of entities. The result is a weighted average tendency giving a viable indication of the specific CO2-emission trends of a logistics service provider.

Technology-Index for Developing Sustainability in Logistics Processes

Technology-Index for Developing Sustainability in Logistics Processes

Frank Straube, Arnfried Nagel, Stefan Doch
The evidence of the ecological sustainability of logistics systems is increasingly expected by customers inside and outside the supply chain. Companies can affect their carbon footprint at different strategic levels: products, structures, processes and technologies. The potential use and evaluation of technologies and their contribution to improve ecological sustainability while taking into account economic conditions are the subject of this paper.
