The following contribution characterizes autonomous behavior from a specific AI (artificial intelligence perspective). Which AI requirements are necessary to development autonomous systems? Which limitations do exist? What is the specific criterion for intuitive intelligence? The article gives a short introduction and tries to motivate the reader to deal with this interesting topic from different perspectives. Starting from Digitalization, Technological Singularity, Autonomous Driving and Big Data Developments, the article focusses on the future integration of AI to optimize complex processes within the Internet of Things (IoT). Several examples and trends are characterized. We cite the relevant literature and mention explicitly the seven criteria of Wahlster.
